I've been working in the sexuality field for almost 30 years. So what do I have to show for this quarter century? I...

  • have written and/or edited nine books
  • created two videos
  • founded Down There Press in 1975 and Good Vibrations in 1977
  • was one of the first volunteers at San Francisco Sex Information
  • was trained at and worked at the Sex Counseling Unit at UCSF
  • served on the Board of Directors of the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality (SSSS, Publisher of the Journal of Sex Research)
  • invented the Butterfly Vibrator and Titattoos (now Intimate Art Tattoos)
  • have taught a sexuality courses at a community college
  • have facilitated sexuality workshops

My areas of current interest within the sexuality field are understanding eroticism, self-sexuality/masturbation, polyamory, and sexuality education for adults. I still regularly attend regional and annual conferences of SSSS, and in 1999 for the first time attended the biennial meeting of the World Association for Sexology in Hong Kong.

Although I've never been an academic sexologist, I'm curious about many aspects of human sexuality, and I'm planning to feed my curiosity with a series of short surveys that you, dear reader, are invited to participate in. The first one is on the subject on the relationship between masturbation and partner-sex. If you are over 18 and sexually active, you may wish to participate in my current online survey. As far as books go, one that interests me for the future is:
The Open Couple, couples who've made polyamory work for them for 10 years or more are being interviewed with special attention to how they have negotiated for and managed their secondary relationships, while maintaining and strengthening their primary partnership. My co-author/editor and I are actively seeking people who would like to write about their experiences, or be interviewed for this book.

 

 

Along with friend Scott Cooper, I created Titattoos (that's said tit-tat-toos), temporary tattoos designed to be worn on the breast. You can see all six designs and order them from Scott by clicking here.

Among all the sexually explicit trash that can be found in cyberspace, a few sites stand out for their superb presentation of fine erotic writing. Then there are the writings (essays, reviews, thought pieces) of my good friend David Steinberg. David, editor and publisher of Erotic By Nature and editor of The Erotic Impulse, writes a regular column for Spectator Magazine entitled Comes Naturally. More than ninety of these essays plus other writings are archived by the Society for Human Sexuality.
